Background :

Every year in France, nearly 4,000 tons of hair are thrown away in hair salons. In 2019, Clément BALDELLOU and James TAYLOR created Capillum, the first hair recycling network.
Capillum is a concept and logistics that includes this raw material in an ecological approach to waste reduction, by reclaiming it and giving it a second life. For Capillum, hair is no longer a waste product, but a resource with multiple benefits that can be transformed to serve different sectors. Hair is currently collected directly from over 4,200 Capillum partner salons, and some products are already on the market (mulching products for agriculture, for example), while other projects are still at the research and development stage.

Mulch product :

Capillum mulch is a natural, biodegradable product made from recycled hair and wool. Available in different thicknesses and shapes, it acts as a natural barrier against pests, reduces watering, limits weeding, protects against cold, prevents soil compaction, limits leaching and does not cause nitrogen starvation. In short, it's an ecological choice to enhance all plantings.
